Theatre.UZ/2011 festival opens The second international theatre festival Theatre.UZ/2011 opened in Tashkent on 17 October. The event has been organized by the Ministry of culture and sport, Youth theatre of Uzbekistan, Fund “Forum of culture and arts of Uzbekistan” and the Uzbektheatre association.

The festival aims to familiarize the public and specialists with the national theatre art and exchange opinions and experience.

Best theatre collectives from the Great Britain, Germany, Israel, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and other countries are participating in the forum.

“I am happy to participate in the festival held in Uzbekistan, which is known as the center of art and culture,” Sherman Cymru theatre (Great Britain) director Phillip Mackenzie said. “Creative forums like these bring new ideas and initiatives.”

Uzbekistan is represented by theatres like the Uzbek National Academic Drama Theatre, State Academic Bolshoi Theatre named after Alisher navoi, Youth Theatre and other theatres from all over the country.

In the framework of the festival, an international forum on the “Role and place of Central Asian theatres in the world theatrical process. 20 years of free development” will be held.

The Theatre.UZ/2011 festival is being organized as part of the Art Week Style.UZ 2011 and will last until 26 October.
